i-Exist 2015 Glastonbury Discussion Board
Welcome!
You can see the provisional program of the 2015 I-Exist Retreat here (opens as a new page).
This Disqus panel *below is dedicated for participants to share information regarding the Glastonbury Retreat, ask questions, and join up together to share in things like cars and rooms in order to bring down costs. To get things started, here are some pointers, based on last year’s I-Exist.
Airports – flying in
The closest international airport is in Bristol (some 40 minutes drive by car). It is close, but is not always the cheapest. For example, a ticket from Schiphol could cost around 90 euros to Southend, London (Easyjet) but will cost closer to 150 euros (KLM) to Bristol. The decision is personal but can also be supported by cooperation. For example, if a group decides to share a small economy car for the week (around 100 euros/4), then it could be more worthwhile to drive down from London.
There is public transport from the airport – but it could be time consuming.
The sooner you can let us know when and where you’re arriving, the more help we can be in supporting your trip to the arrival point of Glastonbury.
For those taking public transport from London, Bath or Bristol train stations are your first point of call.
Hotels/Sleeping
AIRBNB has a variety of accommodation/B&B options in Glastonbury. These are individuals who rent out rooms or unit in a flexible, friendly way, and often it is cheaper than going directly through the tourist circuit. We will be staying in an AIRBNB unit near the center of Glastonbury. Of course, sharing an AIRBNB space could half the cost (unlike in some hotels).
In addition, there are a variety of accommodation options in Glastonbury – from the Travel Lodge (Cheap, but we don’t know how awful), to homely English B&Bs, through to the luxury range boutique hotels or spas.
Advance booking can often make a big difference in price.
Please make sure you check the hotel’s proximity to the Avalon Centre (where we meet each day), especially if you are not planning to have a car for the week. The address of the Avalon Centre is 1, Kings Street, Glastonbury.
Car Rentals./ Car Sharing
In principle, once you have arrived in Glastonbury at a sleeping place near the venue, you will not need your own car until you leave. We are taking into the account the possible need to hire a Minibus for the excursion weekend, to make sure everyone can travel. However, if you do join up with someone renting a car, please be grounded and open in sharing costs, or asking for contributions.
We hope that the Disqus board below to make such arrangements and to locate the best sleeping options as a group
